When testing for alcohol in family law settings, it’s important to know the latest tests available and how they differ from older methods. Additionally, some techniques are better for measuring trends, while others are best for complete cessation.
In the case of blood testing, older tests include CDT, LFT, and MCV, which are indirect markers of alcohol consumption. These are influenced by factors such as smoking, liver disease, medications, and genetics. PEth, by contrast, is a direct marker, increasingly regarded as the preferred method of blood testing.
Hair strand tests are another robust method for measuring alcohol consumption, but they carry important limitations that we will cover in detail. Finally, SCRAM — is it the best and easiest method of measuring abstinence, and what lengths do subjects go to in an effort to defeat the device?
You’ll learn when to use which test to measure alcohol consumption — based on the time frame and context you want to explore.
Using recent research and published cases, we’ll show you when PEth, EtG, and EtPa have been successfully deployed.
